Propane cylinders are designed to take up very little space and can be kept in an outdoor facility or inside the storage area. It does take some time to switch out a propane cylinder, though, it still does needs operator training in order to be conducted safely and also require knowledge of safety standards like the Occupational Health and Safety Administration or OSHA.
Compared to the electric forklift, internal combustion forklifts are easier and faster to refuel. However, the internal combustion engine does create polluting emissions and are really noisy.
NARROW-AISLE FORKLIFTS
The Class 2 forklifts consists of many varieties of forklift that are particularly designed to be utilized in narrow aisles. The typical storage aisles are 12 feet wide, and this easily enables a counterbalanced forklift to turn in the aisle and put a load away. Usually, narrow aisles are 8 feet wide, while the very narrow aisles are approximately 5.5 to 6 feet wide. These narrow aisles require specialized lift trucks that can put away loads without any turning at all or that are small enough to turn on a tight radius.
Turret trucks, order pickers and reach trucks are 3 of the most common narrow-aisle trucks. The differences among these forklifts are discussed below.
Narrow-Aisle Reach Trucks
The conventional reach truck is the original narrow-aisle lift truck and these machines do not need a counterweight. They are also small enough to turn around in narrow aisles. Instead, stability is provided by the outrigger arms which extend in front of the forklifts. However, depending on the storage configuration, these outrigger arms could prevent the lift trucks from getting close enough to the storage rack to deposit and retrieve loads. To be able to overcome this specific situation, a pantograph was designed. The pantograph is a reach truck that is designed with a telescoping device. This enables forks to reach into storage locations easily and concisely.
The best environment for narrow aisle lift trucks is a place which has good lighting, clean floors and good traffic flow, well-maintained floor, along with ample turning space.
