History
In 1919, Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started. The company was established by Anton Raky, an engineer and pioneer in oil drilling and modern drilling technology. The initial name of the company was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
During the year 1937, the cornerstone for SMAG was laid when the manufacturing facility was purchased by the Salzgitter Group for making drilling machinery. During the year 1986, the company obtained the grab product division from Peiner AG. Immediately after, Peiner was developed into an international brand in the following years.
