The forklift is a material handling device used to lift and transport loads from one place to another. Each part of a forklift has a particular function. Various parts could be utilized to move the load vertically or horizontally.

Mast
The parts used to lower and lift the load is known as the forklift mast. There are various types of masts for raising loads to different heights: duplex, triplex, quad and simplex.

Power Supply
Forklifts have four different ways of being powered: gas, electric, propane and diesel. The battery is located in the cab underneath the seat. The propane tank is on the back of the truck. The fuel tank on diesel and gas forklifts is under the back of the truck.

Cab
Located in the center of the truck is the forklift cab. This is where the operator sits and accesses all the controls and informational gauges. The steering wheel, gas pedal, lifting controls, tilting controls and brake are all located in the cab.

Frame
Carrying all the biggest forklift parts is the truck frame. This includes the counterweights situated at the back which prevents the truck from tipping over when loaded. The frame consists of the overhead guard which protects the operator. The undercarriage holds the axles, wheels and driveshaft.
