Classifications of Aerial Lift Platforms & Scissor Lifts
A scissor lift consists of a series of crisscrossed steel arms that are connected to make an X pattern. When raised vertically, the X pattern of support holds the rectangular platform that is located on top of the lifting apparatus. There are support railings along the edges of the lifting apparatus in order to help secure the workers' tools and keep them safe.
The scissor lift has a low profile, best utilized for smooth surfaces like hard dirt surfaces, concrete and pavement. These equipment utilize either a combustion engine or electric motor in order to move the lift and power the lifting apparatus. The operator should move the lift itself if she or he has to travel horizontally, because the lift apparatus only operates the lift in a vertical way.
Rough Terrain Scissor Lift
The rough terrain scissor lift and the standard scissor lift use the same lifting technology. The key difference is that the rough terrain models feature a different base which is specifically made for uneven surfaces. These models also provide oversized all terrain tires and higher ground clearance. The rough terrain scissor lifts utilize 4-wheel drive so as to easily navigate through muddy and difficult terrain.
Telescopic Boom Lift
Telescopic booms are made to be elevated both diagonally and vertically. This unit has a small work platform that houses controls to be able to operate the boom. The controls function with a combustion engine so as to power the hydraulics which move the lift and power the boom. The telescopic boom lift is an independent lift model and has off-road capable tires.
Articulating Boom Lift
The articulating boom lift features 2 telescopic booms that are connected with a moving elbow mechanism. This lifting machinery has a bucket or a small work platform which is equipped with hand controls to be able to control the boom. These are stand-alone lifts which are powered by a combustion engine. Articulating boom lifts are offered with either off-road or hard surface tires. These lifts are designed to be able to reach over top of and on top of buildings.
Aerial Mast Lift
In order to lift a work platform vertically into the air, the aerial mast lift uses a telescopic mast. The lift is normally powered pneumatically or electrically and are self-propelled models. These equipment offer an excellent solution for working in high racks in narrow warehouse aisles. It is very important to remember that aerial mast lifts are limited to vertical movement and are not recommended for off-road application.
