Inspecting your Fork Truck for Safety
Like any industrial machine, the fork truck should be operated carefully. Though, not like an automobile, steering is done on the back wheel giving the machine a different center of balance. Anybody working within the vicinity of a fork truck and anyone operating this particular machinery needs to know safe operating measures and workplace safety guidelines.

Safe operation of a fork truck initially involves checking the truck before driving it. Operators should inspect for potential dangers such as worn tires and fuel leaks. The forks, lifts and the overhead guard should be thoroughly checked. The safety handle must be utilized when the forklift is being mounted.

To ensure that they are operating properly, the alarms, lights and horns should be inspected on a regular basis while the monitors and gauges might need to be adjusted. The seat must be adjusted and safety belt fastened prior to starting the truck.

To prevent tipping the machinery, always choose the low rate speed when driving and take turns cautiously. If the load blocks the vision of the driver, the truck should be driven in reverse gear. Always be alert of the location of any obstacles and pedestrians when driving.

in order to prevent any chance of injury, the operator should always sit in the cage enclosure and keep all parts of the body inside. The forks should be kept a few inches above the floor while driving. Never raise or lower lifts while you are driving or the truck could become unstable. Never permit anybody to walk under lift when the engines are running.

Stopping at intersections and watching for approaching traffic are basics for driving safely. It is a great idea to sound the horn occasionally and before proceeding when operating within aisles. That way, you will warn any approaching person to your presence.
